Raccoons In Yard During The Day
Raccoons that are seen during the day often causes panic, as the raccoon is thought to be sick or rabid. However in residential areas, raccoons will often move throughout the day, especially if food, shelter, and water is readily available. Raccoons will often increase daytime activity to provide food for young. Availability of bird seed from feeders, pet food, koi ponds, and compost piles will often attract the attention of a foraging raccoon. Seeing a raccoon during the day does not mean the raccoon is sick or rabid. There are several key factors that may indicate the raccoon is sick, or rabid.
- Raccoons with discharge from eyes or mouth.
- Raccoons wandering in circles, or erratic movements.
- Raccoons not afraid of human activity.
- Raccoons slow moving or staggering.
