Norway Rats (Rattus norvegicus)
Norway Rats or often called brown rats are one of the largest rat species. They can grow up to a incredible 15″ or more in length, and will have a shorter tail than the body at 6-8″. They will have brownish fur, and have longer hairs. These rats have the ability to try to enter a home low and high, and are extremely good at chewing. Some Norway Rats will be so large that snap traps will not be effective. Specialized live traps will need to be used.
