Wood Rats (Neotoma)
Wood Rats, more commonly referred to “Pack Rats”, are large rodents much like Norway Rats, except larger ears, and soft fine fur. They are nest builders, nesting in attic homes and even in under hoods of cars and trucks. Often using available debris, nests can be made of wires, branches, leaves, insulation, and vegetation. Wood Rats climb very well and are very active at night, although in urban areas, can be active during the day with the availability of food, water, and shelter. Wood Rats are normally a minor pest and can be a nuisance in your home, but in large numbers, they can become a large costly problem.
