Harvest Mouse (Reithrodontomys humulis)
The Eastern Harvest Mouse is uncommon compared to other rodent species in Florida but can be found throughout the state. They will inhabit open meadows and fields, especially when there is no human presence. They are active year round and are mostly nocturnal. Predators that like to feed on the harvest mouse will include hawks, owls, birds, and snakes. The harvest mouse is susceptible to changes in land use, including combine harvesting, burning, bush hogging, and pesticides impacting the species.
